Winter 2004 Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

Meet Mason Hulis. Mason is a very talented animal communicator who lives in Florida. Mason, and his wife Sybil traveled from Florida to Pennsylvania to take my workshops, practiced communicating with animals, and are now in business. We have heard good reports from the people they have helped. They can be reached at 561 691 4633 or on line at MWHulis@aol.com. Mason’s book Animals Can Speak is a must-read and can be obtained on his website www.AnimalsCanSpeak.com. Please check it out.

I met with Mason and Sybil several months ago during one of their trips to this area and I was telling them that I was behind in getting the newsletter finished. Sybil was taking some computer courses at the time, but offered to help take over the writing of the newsletter when school was over. Knowing that help was on the way, I managed to get that issue done. However, Sybil’s mother became quite ill and there was not time for Sybil to work on the next issue. I did get that one done but it was months later than I wanted.

Mason volunteered to help with this issue during his mother in law’s illness, and did so until she passed away recently. I asked Mason to check out pet loss websites and write an article and he did a very complete job, as you will see. He also came up with some other neat stuff, and I’m delighted with his ideas. My sympathies are extended to Sybil and Mason, and I welcome them to Animal Channel.

We have our usual list of Friends Not Forgotten, however two of my friends horses are to be added to this list. Jean Grim’s voice is the one you hear when you call this office. In the ten years she has been working here Jean has helped many callers through their pain and celebrated their joy with them. Ballybogan Sands was Jean’s  Arabian gelding for 18 years. Sands was thirty-three years old when he moved to the other side in November. He had been an “endurance horse” before joining Jean’s family and then he taught Jean’s daughter, Wendy all about horses and riding. He was a loving friend with a wry sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him.

Susan Ajamian and her horse Richwood have been my friends for many years. Susan is more of a behind-the-scene person and is working here part time at the moment.

About ten years ago, while communicating with Susan, Richie said that animal communications would be used often in about ten years. His prediction was very accurate. I believe my client list was fewer than 800 names at that time. I am now approaching 8,000. We now have many capable communicators doing this work, as well as thousands of people who have learned how to speak to their own animals.

Richie had surgery for cancer four years ago and the veterinarians told Susan that he would only live for a few months. They didn’t know Susan! Richie was given acupuncture, Chinese herbs, American herbs, supplements, Reiki, and whatever else Susan could think of. The cancer finally caught up with him but he defied the odds for years rather than months. I was privileged to be in communication with him as he crossed peacefully to the other side. Richie’s spirit and spirituality will stay with us always.

I hope you find the information in Animal Channel helpful, amusing, and interesting. We would love to hear your comments.

Enjoy the wisdom of the animals,

Pet Loss Websites     by Mason Hulis

It is acceptable to show sorrow and grief about the death of a human family member or friend, but many people do not understand when we express the same feelings about the loss of a beloved pet.  It is all right to take time off from work to mourn the loss of a human, but not always accepted when we take time off to mourn for a pet.  Where or who do we turn to for comfort and understanding.  I have personally gone through the loss of my fourteen-year-old Great Dane mix breed a year and a half ago.  I felt a tremendous amount of grief and sorrow about his passing.  It took many months of mourning before I began to feel better about his death.  Many of my clients do not know where to turn for help with their grief for their pet.  If you have experienced the loss of a pet and you think that no one will understand, here is some information that you may find useful.

The Internet is a wonderful place to find resources that will help you deal with your grief.

On a recent search on the Internet, using the keywords “Pet Loss”, I found 2,600,000 hits or links to websites on this subject.  When I typed in the keywords “Pet Bereavement”, I found 65,000 hits.  It would be impossible for me to research all of this information for you and still get this newsletter published, so I will provide you with the information on several websites that I visited and what each website had to offer.

www.Petloss.com

This site has a great deal of information and resources on the subject of pet loss and grief.  I found it is easy to use and understand.  There are articles written on the subject of pet loss, a list of recommended books, online support groups, support by phone, local groups, newsgroups, links to help special needs pets, pet loss sympathy cards, biblical references to animals and heaven and information on the Rainbow Bridge.  Many people believe that the Rainbow Bridge is a place where our pets go to after they have crossed over and where they wait for their reunion with us.

I felt that one the most healing parts of the website was the Monday Night Candle Ceremony.  This ceremony is performed online every Monday night at 10:00 pm eastern time and it helps the animals that have crossed over by sending them prayers and healing energy.

The site also has a chat room to help people get support from others that have lost a pet.

I also found the links page to other websites that provide pet grief support to be very helpful.  I have listed the “free of charge” sites and included a brief description of what these sites have to offer.

www.Griefhealing.com

This site provides grief and loss discussion groups, a pet grief support help line, (but not an 800 number), an extensive list of links to pet loss resources, articles on how to find missing pets, counselors, Animal Communicators, and yes Anita Curtis is on the list, memorials, sympathy cards, organizations, articles, books, newsletters and other pet loss related resources.  This site was easy to use and you can even sign up for Healing courses.

www.Lightning-strike.com

I was not crazy about the website’s name but it does provide a wide variety of pet loss, discussion groups.  The discussion groups included; Support for death and dying, poems, tributes and eulogies, disease and sickness support, lost or missing animal support, a links, news and other info forum.  I did not read any of the questions or answers provided in the forums, so you will have to judge for yourself.

www.Aplb.org

Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement, This site provides information on a wide variety of pet loss subjects.  This site emphasized the profession of pet bereavement, as well as providing resources such as chartrooms, hotlines, events, newsletters, support groups and memorials.  What I found particularly useful on this site was the list of pet cemeteries and crematories in 41 states as well as Canada, Australia, England and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

www.superdog.com

I felt this site is primarily geared toward selling dog training and other pet shopping, but it did have a page titled “Coping with the Loss of a Pet” When I clicked on this page I found resources for Counselors, Funeral homes and cemeteries, poems and stories and a link to the Paws to Heaven Pet loss Directory.  This is a state-by-state pet loss directory, with listings for pet loss support groups and counselors.

www.in-memory-of-pets.com

This was the last free of charge website links on www.petloss.com this site included tributes and poems, candlelight ceremony, Pet’s family stories, and prayers.

This is just an example of a few of the resources available on the Internet to help us through the loss of our pets.  If you know of others that you have found useful, please send an email to Anita or Mason and we will include them in the next newsletter.  The important thing to know is that we do not have to go though the death of a pet by ourselves.  There are many resources available through the Internet to help us through our grief.

Feline Physics Laws

Law of Cat Inertia
A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force - such as the opening of cat food, or a nearby scurrying mouse.

Law of Cat Motion
A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a good reason to change direction.

Law of Cat Magnetism
All blue blazers and black sweaters attract cat hair in direct proportion to the darkness of the fabric.

Law of Cat Thermodynamics
Heat flows from a warmer to a cooler body, except in the case of a cat, in which case all heat flows to the cat.

Law of Cat Stretching
A cat will stretch to a distance proportional to the length of the nap just taken.

Law of Cat Sleeping
All cats must sleep with people whenever possible, in a position as uncomfortable for the people involved, and as comfortable as possible for the cat.

Law of Cat Elongation
A cat can make her body long enough to reach just about any counter top that has anything remotely interesting on it.

Law of Cat Obstruction
A cat must lie on the floor in such a position to obstruct the maximum amount of human foot traffic.

Law of Cat Acceleration
A cat will accelerate at a constant rate, until he gets good and ready to stop.

Law of Dinner Table Attendance
Cats must attend all meals when anything good is served.

Law of Rug Configuration
No rug may remain in its naturally flat state for very long.

Law of Obedience Resistance
A cat's resistance varies in proportion to a human's desire for her to do something.

First Law of Energy Conservation
Cats know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.

Second Law of Energy Conservation
Cats also know that energy can only be stored by a lot of napping.

Law of Refrigerator Observation
If a cat watches a refrigerator long enough; someone will come along and take out something good to eat.

Law of Electric Blanket Attraction
Turn on an electric blanket and a cat will jump into bed at the speed of light.

Law of Random Comfort Seeking
A cat will always seek, and usually take over, the most comfortable spot in any given room.

Law of Bag/Box Occupancy
All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within the earliest possible nanosecond.

Law of Cat Embarrassment
A cat's irritation rises in direct proportion to her embarrassment times the amount of human laughter.

Law of Milk Consumption
A cat will drink his weight in milk, squared, just to show you he can.

Law of Furniture Replacement
A cat's desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional to the cost of the furniture.

Law of Cat Landing
A cat will always land in the softest place possible; often the mid- section of an unsuspecting, reclining human.

Law of Fluid Displacement
A cat immersed in milk will displace her own volume, minus the amount of milk consumed.

Law of Cat Disinterest
A cat's interest level will vary in inverse proportion to the amount of effort a human expends in trying to interest him.

Law of Pill Rejection
Any pill given to a cat has the potential energy to reach escape velocity.

Law of Cat Composition
     A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-Matter + It Doesn't Matter
